DSLers off to the Ed Fringe

Tuesday, 19 July 2016 09:45

Every year DSL graduates head up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on mass. Some merely go to watch, but many others to perform. Pictured are just a handful of grads across 9 different shows, and you'll find many more up in Edinburgh.

Faculty member Jilly Bond stars in Tangent Theatre's Criminology 303, alonside graduates Julian Gartside and Antonis Sideras.

"Retired detective Norma Bates has solved every murder case presented to her. Except one. It's quite literally coming back to haunt her. When her lecture is hijacked by an apparent ghost in the machine, Norma is forced to confront the details of her unsolved case. Reliving her encounter with the pivotal witness, whose own prejudices cast a lingering shadow over her investigation, she uncovers a tale of racism, betrayal and lost love."

You'll also find Empty Beds, winner of the Scottish Daily Mail Award, written and performed by Julia Cranney and also staring graduate Carys Wright (both 2016 graduates).

"Nobody should spend their birthday alone... right? The Wyld sisters – Catherine, Emily and Jo – tend to avoid one another. Today, they're trapped on a train 250 miles from home, en route to visit their brother Michael on his birthday. He's seriously ill and the only available psychiatric hospital bed has left him stranded on the other side of the country. The sisters have been travelling all day to see him and patience is wearing thin. Searingly honest, award-winning new writing from Julia Cranney, exploring the human impact of cuts to mental health services."
