On Wednesday 17th July, graduating MFA student Adam Hashmi performed in the final stage of the 2024 Spotlight Prize competition at Kings Place, London. DSL’s Director Emma Lucia Hands and DSL’s Subject Lead for Acting, Michael Fry, (both pictured above with Adam) were delighted to support him at the event.
Michel said: ‘We were incredibly proud to see Adam perform confidently and imaginatively among a group of 22 high-achieving finalists. There was a particularly strong connection between the actors and the (very full, very enthusiastic) industry audience. It was an important and inspiring event.’
Over 70 organisations were invited to nominate a student from their graduating classes for this year’s prize. Each student sent a self-tape audition, and the 22 finalists were selected by a panel of industry experts based on the quality of their auditions. You can read all about the finalists here and details of the 2024 judges can be found here.
Adam said of the process: “The final was such a great experience, being able to share the stage with a whole new group of wonderfully talented people! Although it was a smidge daunting at the start of the competition on what pieces to pick, Lyndsey Turner and Paulette Randal, the stage and screen directors, put me at ease. They steered us wonderfully and helped all my fellow finalists be comfortable and relaxed. There was nothing but encouragement and love amongst us performers, which is what really made the final so special.”
