On Friday 12th April, BA 2nd Year Josh Gracie achieved 2nd place in the AESS Speech Prize.
The AESS Speech Prize is an annual competition for actors and singers held at The Concert Artistes’ Association in London. The aim of the event is “to encourage the communication of English words, with clarity, understanding and imagination.”
Open to young actors aged 18 to 23 who are in full or part time training at a recognized institution, DSL sent three candidates: Josh Gracie (BA), Eliza Horn (MFA) and Georgia Cozens (MA). All three made it through an in-house audition process before going through to the competition.
Competitors prepare a selection of English literature up to 8 minutes long and perform it from memory. They are judged on expression, technique, clarity and fluency as well as imaginative interpretation.
All three DSL students performed very well against extremely tough competition. The standard was very high. Georgia was shortlisted for the final and Josh came away with the second prize – £600!
Congratulations to all three for representing DSL so brilliantly and demonstrating skill, professionalism and talent!
