We had a very busy Spring term with showcases and performances as well as a visit to Poland for our MFA students. Read on for some great news about our Carleton Hobbs finalists and the latest Alumni highlights.

2024 GRADUATE SHOWS & SHOWCASES

We had a fantastic Spring Season of shows and showcases across all three of our graduating cohorts. Congratulations to all of our talented students on their creativity and professionalism and a huge thank you to all our supporters who attended.

The recent Showcases at The Arts Theatre received excellent, positive feedback and allowed us to introduce our graduating students to industry.

ALUMNI NEWS

Rachel Nicholson, MA 2022 Graduate, plays the recurring role of Kathy Downes in Call The Midwife. She was joined by 2017 Alum, Lauren Cornelius in episode 7.  The much-loved show continues to thrive in its 13th season for the BBC.

Catch 2007 PG Alum, Krupa Pattani, as Saman Kaur in the ITV production: Mr. Bates vs the Post Office. This important piece of work highlights once again the positive impact of the arts. You can read more about it’s incredible impact here. And here’s a link to the show on ITVX.

2021 BA(Hons) Alum, Hayden Mampasi, is accomplishing one of his dreams – playing Romeo at The Globe. You can catch him in the production from now through to the 13th of April.

INDUSTRY VISITS

There’s a bit of a Call the Midwife theme this month (following our two graduates’ appearances on the show), as current DSL students also had the opportunity to meet Sarah Esdaile, a regular director on Call the Midwife, as well as EastEnders and The Chelsea Detective. Sarah gave a talk on Tuesday 27th February. You can read about it here.

DSL CELEBRATES TWO CARLETON HOBBS FINALISTS

Two DSL students were selected as finalists for this year’s Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award. Finalists Erin Killingray (MFA) and Zak Labiad (MFA) represented DSL in the competition, while Eloïse O’Connor (MA) and Finley Stevens (BA) also represented DSL in an earlier round – they all did excellent work and gave great performances. Erin was a runner up and has received a special commendation.

SUMMER SCHOOLS AND OUTREACH

Audition Season continues at DSL as we are still recruiting for 2024 entry. Please check out the audition and entry requirements on our website and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Also, for anyone looking to get a taste of our training, our Summer Schools are open for applications. With two levels and two course length options to fit into your summer break!

Since the start of the academic year, DSL representatives have spoken to hundreds of potential students at events in Liverpool, London, Southampton and Truro as well as delivering in-person workshops, online presentations and Q&A sessions for schools and colleges. If you work in education or for an organization that would benefit from a talk or even a visit and workshop –please get in touch!
