Federation of Drama Schools Dublin Showcase 2021

Headshots for news articles Portrait 1 DSL graduate (2021) Francesca Eldred performs in the Federation of Drama Schools Dublin Showcase 2021. Read about her experience here.

I have recently had the privilege of performing in person for the FDS industry showcase in Dublin, involving Irish graduates from UK drama schools. Due to the pandemic, this involved both 2020 and 2021 graduates, so there were about twenty duologues on offer for the industry to see. It was fantastic to meet so many Irish grads to rehearse and perform together in this wonderful city.

We started off the long weekend rehearsing in Bow Street Academy with directors Caroline Byrne (the newly appointed Associate Director for the Abbey Theatre, 2022), Patricia Logue (Senior Lecturer in Acting, RWCMD) and Niamh Dowling (Head of School of Performance, Rose Bruford). Prior to this we had a range of workshops and rehearsals on zoom, choosing the perfect showcase scene for our pairing. It was so great to perform my duologue with another actor from a different London drama school, collaborating our different styles of training to create the best possible scene.

The process ended with a day of performances to both the industry and friends and family. Attendees included a list of high profile casting directors and directors from across the profession. I am so grateful to DSL and the FDS for putting me forward for this opportunity and I am excited to see what the future holds for myself, and the other actors involved.

Additional performances of the Dublin Showcase will be taking place in London at the Soho Theatre, 7th and 8th December, both performances at 1pm.
