At DSL, there are multiple opportunities to engage with industry professionals. One of these is our regular talks and Q&A’s with industry guests, hosted at DSL by our team. We are fortunate to welcome guests who represent diverse facets of the industry, and we want to thank our first three guests for their time and insight.
The first of these talks was on 3rd October with Waj Ali. Waj is a personal tutor at DSL. He’s an actor and has worked extensively across Film, TV, and Theatre for the last 10 Years. Some of his most notable credits include Carnival Row, Honour, Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar and Silent Witness to name a few. His work in theatre has seen him at the National Theatre, Bush Theatre, Hampstead and the Pleasance.
On Thursday 17th October we hosted Alexandra Gilbreath. Alex is an actress and director, known for Warhol, The Art of Love (2022) and Monarch of the Glen (2000). With credits on stage, TV, Film and Opera from classical to contemporary roles, Alex has a wealth of experience, and we are very lucky to have the opportunity to learn more about her approaches to these different artforms. You will find multiple clips and credits online including a brief interview for the RSC here.
And just last week we welcomed Mark Oosterveen. Mark is a DSL alumnus and has worked on Radio, TV, Film and Theatre productions as an actor and assistant director. Some of his recent credits include: For TV; Silent Witness and Casualty for the BBC, Django for Sky/Canal+. In film; Hedda for Plan B Entertainment, Grand Theft Hamlet for Altitude Film and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare for Jerry Bruckheimer Films. For theatre; Cutting the Tightrope at the Arcola Theatre. And for radio; The Sandman: Act IV for Audible.
Our industry guests help our graduating students visualise pathways for their career and provide invaluable insight and advice.
Here’s what our students had to say about this initiative.
The talks are so wonderful and informative, giving an insight to what life is like beyond training and the many exciting experiences that await us all. (India Mae)
The first three Industry Talks of the term have been an invaluable source of inspiration, insight and knowledge. Listening to first hand experiences from industry professionals has been key to the development of every aspiring actor in the room. I can’t wait for the rest of the Industry Talks this term!
