Award winning playwright and DSL graduate, Torben Betts joined us for the last industry talk of the Spring Term. Torben is a highly respected writer whose plays have been produced across the UK and internationally. His most celebrated works include Invincible, Muswell Hill and Unconquered which won ‘Best New Play’ at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland in 2007. This talk gave our graduating actors the opportunity to read a series of scenes from Torben’s plays, including The Subtle Art of Standing Apart, an adaption of Moliere’s The Misanthrope, Invincible, and Unconquered. We rehearsed the scenes with Torben exploring the varying pace and rhythm whilst discussing ways to find the truth to the characterisation and bring out the comedy.
Torben will be involved in some future projects at DSL and we look forward to announcing his continuing involvement with DSL soon.
