We are delighted to announce the inaugural Professor Peter John CBE Professional Acting Scholarship Awards at Drama Studio London. As Vice-Chancellor of the University of West London, Professor Peter John is demonstrating his commitment to the broadening of access to specialist arts training by putting his name to these scholarships.
The first recipient of the BA (Hons) in Professional Acting scholarship is Louisa McClintock.
These scholarships are for individuals who show great promise and passion for acting and who will greatly benefit from the financial support to pursue their ambitions.
Drama Studio London is committed to breaking down economic barriers which prevent many talented people from accessing high quality actor training.
The recipients of the MFA and one year diploma awards will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.
“We are looking forward to working with Louisa in the new academic year. We were impressed by her audition and clear commitment to the development of her craft.” Emma Lucia Hands, Director of Drama Studio London.
“I’m incredibly excited to have been awarded this scholarship and I’m grateful for the opportunity it will give me. I’m thankful to have the support of DSL even before I’ve begun my training” – Louisa McClintock
“We are thrilled to be able to offer one of our incoming BA Professional Acting cohort a scholarship. It is another opportunity for us to be able to extend the diversity of our acting company and support a talented young actor for whom finances present a potential barrier” – Seb Harcombe, Artistic Director of degree BA (Hons) studies.
It was an honour being asked to sit on the panel to help decide the recipients for this year’s awards and also a huge responsibility to make sure we were selecting the right candidates. It was a very tough process as there were so many eligible applicants. Ultimately it proved a very rewarding experience, knowing that this scheme exists to help widen access. – Ishwar Maharaj, Tutor of degree BA (Hons) studies.
